A self-confessed “Sex And The City” fan, Bonaro has cast a perfect tale for today directed at women over 40. New Yorker Joanna Bonaro wrote, produced and stars in “Good ‘n Screwed,” a half-hour series about the trials and tribulation of a woman suddenly divorced and back in the dating pool. IM - THE IMPROPER - JOANNA BONARO'S GOOD 'N SCREWED EYES NEGLECTED TV NICHE, 40 PLUS WOMEN August 01, 2017.Each episode explores some very true situations about self-image, sex, marriage and the trials and tribulations of dating over 40 – in all its frustrating, funny glory.” As Bonaro put it, “I wrote this series to showcase our plights, concerns, desires, in an upbeat, humorous way. There are still many opportunities for quality shows, like “Good ‘n Screwed”, to bring these women into the light and to show them in all their glory, and with all their wonderful flaws. While current shows like Grace And Frankie (featuring Emmy-nominated actresses Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin) portray aspects of this growing and important demographic, this over- 40 female audience remains underrepresented on television. These women want to see themselves and their stories portrayed in a realistic, moving and human way, and not in the one dimensional supporting roles that are all too common in the industry today.” Their stories, both humorous and heartbreaking, inspired me to create this series. These women now confront the daunting task of dating after 40. “Good ‘n Screwed” is a modern take on an age-old problem – how do women over 40 get back in the dating game when they find themselves unexpectedly single again? Bonaro said: “I was inspired to create this series by my many female friends who are divorced, widowed, or who have never married. The universal reaction was overwhelmingly positive and Bonaro was showered with bouquets of compliments for her performance and for the show’s timely message. For the remainder of the festival, Bonaro was consistently approached by her fellow filmmakers, actors and others who all recognized her wearing her signature white outfits that mirrored the image on the “Good ‘n Screwed” poster. With much buzz in advance of the screening of “Good ‘n Screwed”, the theatre was filled to capacity and, after it was over, the show received a standing ovation. Barnett won for Best Female Filmmaker.ĭel Weston’s AOF Festival, now in its thirteenth year, and its companion festival, Hollywood Dreamz International Film Festival, bring together filmmakers, writers, producers, actors, DPs, and post-production professionals from around the world to have their work recognized and honored. Nominated for Best Actress, Best TV Series/Pilot and Best Female Filmmaker, Bonaro walked away with the award for Best Actress and her Director Kelli K.
